أستراليا دولة تضم البر الرئيسي للقارة الأسترالية وجزيرة تسمانيا وجزراً أصغر كثيرة، تبلغ مساحة أراضيها 7,688,287 كم²، فهي سادس أكبر دولة في العالم، وأكثر القارات المأهولة انبساطاً وجفافاً. يحيط بها المحيطان الهندي والهادئ، ويقع الحاجز المرجاني العظيم، أكبر شعاب مرجانية في العالم، قبالة ساحلها الشمالي الشرقي. عاصمتها كانبرا، وأكبر مدنها سكاناً سيدني وملبورن، ويعيش نحو 95% من السكان على بعد 100 كم من الساحل. لغتها الإنجليزية وعملتها الدولار الأسترالي. يتدرج مناخها من استوائي رطب في الشمال الشرقي والشمال الغربي إلى جاف في الوسط، أما الساحل الجنوبي فمعتدل رطب، وتتساقط الثلوج في مرتفعات الجنوب الشرقي وتسمانيا. ونحو 70% من مساحتها جاف أو شبه جاف.
Australia comprises the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania and numerous smaller islands. With a land area of 7,688,287 km² it is the sixth-largest country in the world, and the flattest and driest inhabited continent. It lies between the Indian and Pacific oceans, and the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef, lies off its north-east coast. The capital is Canberra and the most populous cities are Sydney and Melbourne; about 95% of the population lives within 100 km of the coast. The language is English and the currency is the Australian dollar. The climate ranges from wet tropical in the northeast and northwest to arid in the centre, while the southern coast is temperate and humid, with snow in the south-eastern highlands and Tasmania. About 70% of the land is arid or semi-arid.

The metropolis surrounds Sydney Harbour and extends about 80 km from the Pacific Ocean in the east to the Blue Mountains in the west. Greater Sydney has 658 suburbs and an estimated population of about 5.6 million (June 2025), around two-thirds of the state's population. Its nicknames include the Emerald City and the Harbour City.

Melbourne is the capital and most populous city of the state of Victoria and the second-most populous city in the country, with about 5.4 million people in June 2025. It occupies much of the northern and eastern coastlines of Port Phillip Bay and is claimed to be the southernmost city in the world with more than a million people.

كانبرا العاصمة الاتحادية وأكبر تجمع سكاني في إقليم العاصمة الأسترالية، يُقدَّر سكانها بنحو 484 ألف نسمة (2025)، وهي أكبر مدينة داخلية في البلاد. أُسست بعد اتحاد المستعمرات الأسترالية لتكون مقر الحكومة، حلاً وسطاً بين سيدني وملبورن. وتقع سلسلة بريندابيلا جنوبها وغربها، وهي الطرف الشمالي لجبال الألب الأسترالية، أعلى سلاسل البلاد.
Canberra is the national capital and the largest population centre in the Australian Capital Territory, with an estimated 484,000 people (2025), and the largest inland city in the country. It was established after federation as the seat of government, a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne. The Brindabellas, south and west of the city, form the northern part of the Australian Alps, the country's highest mountain range.

Wollongong is a city in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, on the narrow coastal strip between the Illawarra Escarpment and the Pacific Ocean, 85 km south of Sydney. It is the third-largest city in the state after Sydney and Newcastle, noted for its heavy industry, its port and its setting between a chain of surf beaches and the rainforest-covered escarpment.
نيوكاسل

Newcastle is a large metropolitan area at the mouth of the Hunter River, the second-most-populous in New South Wales and the main city of the Hunter Region. Famous for its coal, it is the largest coal-exporting harbour in the world, shipping 143 million tonnes in 2022.
